FAQs
Got a question before your tan? You’ll probably find the answer here. For the full step-by-step guide, see Prep & aftercare.
Before your tan
How should I prepare for my tan?
Exfoliate the day before so your tan goes on smooth and lasts longer. Shave at least 24 hours before, and wax at least 48 hours before.
On the day, come with clean, dry skin: no moisturiser, deodorant, perfume or make-up. They can stop the tan developing evenly.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Loose, dark clothes and flip-flops, so nothing rubs or marks your tan on the way home. Skip tight jeans, bras with tight straps and anything light coloured.
During the tan you can wear your own underwear or swimwear, or nothing at all, whatever you’re comfortable with. [I provide disposable briefs and a hair cap.]
How long before my event should I get my tan?
One to two days before is the sweet spot. Your tan has time to develop and settle, and it’s at its best on the day.
For a wedding or prom, I’d recommend a trial tan a few weeks before so you know exactly how your shade will look.
Should I get my nails and hair done before or after?
Before, if you can. Manicures, pedicures, hair colouring and anything involving water or scrubbing can fade or streak a fresh tan.
Will I look orange?
Not with me! I’ll pick a shade that suits your skin tone and the look you’re after, whether that’s a subtle glow or something deeper. If you’re not sure, we’ll chat about it before we start.
Aftercare
When can I shower after my tan?
Leave it at least 8 hours before your first shower, or 2 hours for a rapid tan. Until then, keep dry: no exercise, no rain and no washing up.
For your first shower, rinse with lukewarm water only, no soap or shower gel, and pat yourself dry. Don’t worry when the water runs brown, that’s just the bronzer washing off.
How long does my tan last?
Usually 6 - 8 days depending on your skin and how you look after it. It fades gradually, like a natural tan.
How can I make my tan last longer?
Moisturise every day, morning and night. Pat dry after showers instead of rubbing, and keep showers short and not too hot.
Try to avoid swimming pools, hot baths, saunas and steam rooms, which all fade a tan faster.
What should I avoid after my tan?
Until your first shower: water, sweating, tight clothes and putting on make-up or deodorant.
After that: exfoliating, oil-based products, long hot baths and chlorine, which all make a tan fade faster or patchy.

Safety
Is spray tanning safe?
Yes, spray tanning is a safe way to get a glow without the sun. The tan only colours the very top layer of your skin. It won’t protect you from the sun, though, so keep using sun cream.
Can I have a spray tan if I’m pregnant?
Please let me know before your appointment so we can talk it through, I personally do not spray tan when in the first trimester and I always recommend to seek professional advice from your midwife or gp first.
Can I have a tan if I have a skin condition or allergies?
Let me know before you book. I can’t tan over broken, sore or irritated skin, and if you have allergies or sensitive skin, I’d recommend a patch test first.
